Attività di Ricerca

Nel laboratorio di “Neuroscienze sperimentali in riabilitazione” ho la possibilità di unire le mie competenze maturate durante il Dottorato in Genomica Funzionale e Strutturale, alla SISSA di Trieste, con lo studio delle malattie neurodegenerative, tematica centrale al Centro Neurolesi di Messina. In dettaglio, l’obiettivo è la comprensione dei meccanismi molecolari alla base di tali patologie, l’individuazione di possibili approcci terapeutici, e lo studio degli effetti di sostanze ad azione neuroprotettiva, quali ad esempio i fitocannabinoidi. Gli approcci riguardano modelli in vitro e in vivo, il ricorso a metodiche di biologia molecolare e a tecnologie avanzate, quali il Next Generation Sequencing. In tal modo è possibile applicare la branca delle scienze omiche allo studio delle pathway molecolari per la comprensione dei processi patogenetici.

Research Activities

In the laboratory of "Experimental Neuroscience in Rehabilitation" I have the opportunity to combine my skills gained during my PhD in Functional and Structural Genomics, at SISSA in Trieste, with the study of neurodegenerative diseases, a central theme at the Neurolesi Center of Messina. In detail, the goal is to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying these diseases, to identify possible therapeutic approaches, and to study the effects of substances with neuroprotective action, such as phytocannabinoids. The approaches involve in vitro and in vivo models, the use of molecular biology methods and advanced technologies, such as Next Generation Sequencing. In this way, it is possible to apply the branch of omics sciences to the study of molecular pathways for understanding pathogenetic processes.
